Game Day Guide for Lions Families

By Coach Bill

Saturday games are the highlight of the week for our little ballers. A few simple habits make game day smooth, safe and fun for everyone.

Before the game

  • Find the gym. Games move between school gyms around Mesa, and some Saturdays we play two games back to back. Each card on the schedule shows the gym, the court and a map link.
  • Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early. That is enough time to find the team and take a few warm-up shots.
  • Pack the basics. Lions jersey, sneakers, a water bottle and a big smile.
  • Sit in the bleachers. Families watch from the bleachers. Please keep the court and our bench clear so coaches and players can move safely.

Snacks and cheering

One family brings a small team snack to each game. Claim a game on the snack sign-up; the snack rotation post has easy ideas and our allergy note.

Cheering is our favorite part. For 5 and 6 year olds, a few friendly ground rules help:

  • Cheer for every Lion, not just your own child.
  • Celebrate passes, hustle and good sportsmanship as loudly as baskets.
  • Leave the coaching to the coaches. Little players can only listen to one voice at a time.
  • Be kind to the other team too. They are somebody’s little ballers!

After the final whistle, both teams line up for high-fives. Snacks and hugs come next.

Go Lions!
